The Architecture of Looking Up: Creating Sanctuary in a "Work in Progress" World

I’ve dubbed this season of life A Work in Progress. Usually, that refers to the messy middle of a canvas or a manuscript, but lately, it feels like a fairly accurate description of the world at large.

When the "headlines" feel heavy, I’ve found that the most practical thing we can do is curate our internal frequency. Everything has a vibration—from the scents we breathe to the textures we touch. I’ve become somewhat obsessed with the idea of creating a Home Sanctuary as a form of spiritual respite during tumultuous times.

Why Your Light Fixtures Matter (Seriously)

A good friend who knows how to build things recently helped me replace some generic light fixtures in my home with crystal chandeliers. It’s amazing how such a simple thing can be transformative.

The architects of the great domed cathedrals understood something fundamental: looking up literally elevates our mood. When we give our eyes a reason to reach upward, our frequency follows. We move from a state of "constriction" to one of "expansion."

In my own creative sanctuary, a candle is always flickering. I use Japanese sandalwood and Palo Santo incense to anchor the nervous system, and I fill my line of sight with books, plants, art, and sparkly lighting that I actually love. My space is also filled with photos of people and pets I’ve loved. And then of course there’s the cat of the house.

Intentionally filling our space with things that vibrate with beauty isn't just decorating—it’s a form of prayer. It’s telling the universe that we choose hope and peace.
